Overview

LDMD's Streetscape Program is an integral part of our overall strategy to market downtown Louisville as an easy-to-use, enjoyable place to experience. To view photos of our streetscape projects, click on the corresponding program on the left panel.

Bike Racks / Benches

The LDMD commissioned local artists to create one-of-a-kind bike rack sculptures or benches to be placed in the public right-of-way in various locations in downtown Louisville. In addition to serving as functioning bike racks, they provide original art for the enjoyment of the general public.

Information Kiosks

In 28 locations, mainly concentrated along or near heavy pedestrian traffic corridors or attractions and at hotels and parking facilities, are our Information Kiosks. These free-standing stainless steel units provide a map of downtown Louisville, a list of and directions to major attractions and a list of monthly downtown events.

Pedestrian Signage System

LDMD's Pedestrian Signs are located on the northwest and southeast corners of each intersection within our 61-block coverage area. At each of these 125 locations, we list every street level business for one block in all four directions as well as ATM's, public telephones and long distance directions to major attractions.

Newspaper Corrals

In an effort to help beautify the District by providing a clean and classy way to "corral" the newspaper boxes that seem to be proliferating, LDMD has installed over 50 corrals. Like the other streetscape items, the corrals use the "Downtown Louisville" design.

Trash Cans

In partnership with Metro Government, the LDMD designed and installed newspaper corrals and garbage cans to both better organize the public way and integrate into Metro's Wayfinding System. Specifically designed for "Downtown Louisville" and locally built, our corrals and trash cans simultaneously serve a needed function while helping brand downtown.

Flower Pots

In partnership with the Downtown Development Corporation and private property owners on Fourth Street from Liberty to Main, LDMD helped place 66 large flower pots in the public way in the Spring of 2006. Very popular, the program is to be expanded in 2007.
